Today, we’re featuring the University of Kentucky’s Jacobs Science Center, recently completed by Kewaunee’s exclusive dealer partner in the Southeast, Nycom, Inc.

Project Overview

The Jacobs Science Center within the University of Kentucky is a standout project in our Amazing Spaces competition. Completed in July 2024, this project involved the creation of four labs with prep and storage areas, designed for ultimate flexibility.

Key Players

  • Dealer: Nycom
  • Builder: Wehr Constructors
  • Architect: JRA Architects
  • Lab Planner: RFD Design

Project Goals

The design for this project had two major directives:

  • Ultimate Flexibility: The labs were intended to be transitional spaces for new researchers and instructional staff, requiring adaptable workstations and casework.
  • Budget Constraints: The project needed to meet stringent budget requirements, necessitating cost-effective solutions without compromising on flexibility.

Innovative Solutions

Nycom and Kewaunee collaborated to meet these objectives with exceptional knowledge and design skills. The project featured the following Kewaunee products:

  • Fixed Oak Casework
  • Enterprise Tables
  • Mobile Steel Casework
  • Venturi Fume Hoods

These elements provided the necessary flexibility and functionality, ensuring the space could adapt to the evolving needs of the university’s research personnel.

Special Considerations

The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget, thanks to the team’s expertise and Kewaunee’s timely support and responsiveness. This achievement highlights the importance of collaboration and innovative thinking in creating functional and adaptable laboratory spaces.
